| Technical Notes: The source of the numerator is County liquor control agencies, annual reports. The source of the denominator is Hawaii State Dept. of Business, Economic Development & Tourism. This version is an alternative to Indicator 1(a). It presents rates based on"De Facto" population, which includes average number of visitors present and average number of residents absent. This gives a more realistic picture of the rate of alcohol sales outlets per numbers of people actually present in Hawaii. Notes on data quality and data patterns for social indicators related to substance abuse. | |||||||||||
| Importance of the Indicator: This is an indicator of the availability of alcohol. Young people are more likely to drink alcohol if they live or play in areas where it is more readily available. | |||||||||||
