The Social Indicators component of the Hawai‘i Prevention Needs Assessment involved the compilation of trend data for 40 specific indicators. These indicators were designated by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) as "validated archival indicators of risk and outcome variables that predict problem behavior." An additional three Census-based indicators of economic well-being or distress were also included.
