Indicator information

65+: Overweight

Definition: Percentage of people aged 65 and over who, under federal guidelines, are considered overweight based on self-reported weight and height, three-year average

Notes: The data are from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS). Body mass index (BMI) has been calculated as weight (in kg) divided by height squared (in meters squared). BMI 25.0-29.9 is classified as overweight. Percentage is a 3-year average, which helps to reduce the year-to-year fluctuation due to small numbers. Percentage is reported under the year at the midpoint of the 3-year period. National data is the median of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
