Indicator information

65+: Participation in physical activity

Definition: Percentage of people aged 65 and over who reported participation in any physical activity or exercise in the past month, three-year average

Notes: The data are from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS). Respondents were asked the question: "During the past month, did you participate in any physical activity or exercise such as running, calisthenics, golf, gardening, or walking for exercise?" Percentage is a 3-year average, which helps to reduce the year-to-year fluctuation due to small numbers. Percentage is reported under the year at the midpoint of the 3-year period. National data is the median of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
