65+: Current smokers
Definition: Percentage of people aged 65 and over who are current smokers, three-year average
Notes: The data are from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS). Respondents were asked the question: "Do you now smoke cigarettes every day, some days, or not at all?" Those who answered "every day" or "some days" are classified as current smokers. Percentage is a 3-year average, which helps to reduce the year-to-year fluctuation due to small numbers. Percentage is reported under the year at the midpoint of the 3-year period. National data is the median of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
