65+: Binge drinkers
Definition: Percentage of people aged 65 and over who are binge drinkers, three-year average
Notes: The data are from Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS). Respondents defined as binge drinkers had 5 or more drinks on at least 1 occasion in the last month, based on answers to a series of questions on alcohol consumption. Percentage is a 3-year average, which helps to reduce the year-to-year fluctuation due to small numbers. Percentage is reported under the year at the midpoint of the 3-year period. Data reported for 2000 is a 2-year average of 1999 and 2001. National data is the median of the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
