Infancy and Preschool Years

The birth of a baby is often the real birth of a family--those who marry are called "a couple" until they have a child. The care of a child begins even before birth, with the development of parenting attitudes and knowledge and the provision of physical protection. Physical health is the area most monitored and most predictive of future well-being. Most infants get off to a healthy start, and attention can then shift to their safety and development.
