Hawai‘i Kids Count
The goal of Hawai‘i Kids Count is to improve the well-being of
Hawai‘i's children and their families by increasing public awareness of
their conditions and serving as a catalyst for positive actions on their
behalf. Policy changes on the state and federal levels, a sluggish
economy, and a demographic shift toward the elderly may negatively
affect Hawai‘i's children.
The strategies employed by the project are:
- Establishing and maintaining a database of information which accurately describes the status of children in Hawai‘i
and publishing an annual fact report
- Monitoring Hawai‘i's
progress regarding children and families by tracking key indicators over
time
- Developing and disseminating analyses of specific issues relevant to Hawai‘i's
children and families to the media, legislators, and public- and
private-sector leaders
- Strengthening the constituency for children
through information and training
- Linking with the national Kids
Count network, which provides access to resources, technical expertise,
and knowledge of kids in other states
