Hawai‘i State Incentive Grant for Substance Abuse Prevention Among Hawai‘i's Youth
Recognizing the need to reduce the use of drugs by the youths in our state, the Hawai‘i State Incentive Grant (SIG) was developed with two major goals:
- To reduce alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and other drug use and abuse among Hawai‘i's 12- to 17-year-olds by building a statewide system of enduring substance-abuse prevention partnerships
- To coordinate, leverage, and redirect substance abuse prevention resources to communities, families, schools, and workplaces
This three-year, $8.4 million grant was awarded to the State of Hawai‘i and is administered by the State Department of Health's Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division (ADAD). The Center on the Family provides technical services, such as data collection and dissemination, for the Comprehensive Prevention Strategy, as well as training and technical assistance
to communities operating prevention programs under the SIG.
