Confident Parenting
Aims to increase
the number of caregivers prepared to care for their children by offering
classes which help them understand how: children develop, learn
appropriate discipline skills, to develop positive self-esteem in their
children, and how to meet their children's needs.

Hawai'i Covering Kids A national health access program for low-income,
uninsured children funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Overall
goals are to create a seamless health insurance enrollment process for
QUEST, Medicaid, and State CHIP eligible children as
well as advocate for health insurance for 100% of Hawaii's children and
youth.

Hawai`i Healthy Start Program
A voluntary home-based intervention program designed to prevent child abuse
and neglect by promoting child health and development in newborns of
families at risk for poor child outcomes. Services include at-birth
screening and interview assessment, case management, interagency
coordination, and home visitation. The home visitation portion of the
program has three components which include home visiting by trained
paraprofessionals, child development issue intervention by a child
development specialist, and treatment readiness services by a clinical
specialist for substance abuse, intimate partner abuse, and maternal
depression.

Healthy Start /West Hawai`i
Screen and assess all births for risk of child
abuse and neglect. Provide referrals and home visiting to those families
who are at risk and want services. Focus on parent/child interaction,
strengthening families and coordinating services for special needs
children ages 0-3.

Homereach A free island-wide home visitor service that provides support,
encouragement and information on parenting for families with children ages

Maui Family Support Services, Inc.
(MFSS). Free assistance to help parents create
a stable and nurturing environment for their children. MFSS does this
through early identification of families that would benefit from services

Parents and Children Together Early Head Start/ Head Start Early Head Start is
a prenatal infant/toddler program that is designed to nurture and support
parents and children by building on the familiesí strengths. The Head
Start program provides a ìhead startî for school success for children
3-5 years old. Early Head
Start/Head start is a comprehensive child development program that
supports and works with the entire family.

YWCA of Hawai`i Island Family Support Services Healthy Start Program
A child abuse and neglect prevention program that works with over burdened
families to reduce stress. Families
receive weekly home visits, community referrals, and education support
& encouragement regarding parenting skills.

The Western Region Center for the
Application of Prevention Technologies (WestCAPT) is one of five regional
centers funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention and includes Alaska,
Washington, Oregon, Idaho, California, Arizona, Nevada, Montana, Wyoming, Utah,
Hawai`i, Guam, American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands,
Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, and Palau.
The purpose of WestCAPT is to assist states, jurisdictions, and
community-based prevention programs in the Western Region to apply
scientifically-defensible strategies in their efforts to prevent substance
abuse.
